Odin (satellite)

Odin is a Swedish satellite working in two disciplines; astrophysics and aeronomy. Within the field of astrophysics, Odin is used in the study of star formation. When used for aeronomical observations, it is the ozone layer depletion and effects of global warming that are explored.

Odin was developed by the Swedish Space Corporation, but it is an international project where the space agencies of Finland (TEKES), Canada (CSA) and France (CNES) are involved. It was launched on a START-1 rocket on February 20, 2001 from Svobodny, Russia.

In April 2007, astronomers announced that Odin had discovered the existence of interstellar clouds of molecular oxygen for the first time. http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2007/04/070417080835.htm
