Mpi people
The Mpi are an ethnic group of Thailand.
Geographic Distribution
There are about 1,500 Mpi in the Nan and Phrae Provinces of Thailand.
Origin
The Mpi came to Laos during the 18th century from the Yunnan Province of China. They migrated shortly afterwards to Thailand. They are of Lolo descent.
Language
Approximately 900 of the Mpi still speak their Mpi language. Nearly all of the Mpi speak fluent Northern Thai.
