Moviestar.ie is an online DVD rental website, offering flat rate rental-by-mail to customers in Ireland.

Customers pay a monthly flat-fee service for the rental of films and TV series on DVD. Once subscribed, the customer creates an ordered list, called a rental queue, of DVDs to rent. The DVDs are delivered individually via the An Post from a central distribution centre. Customers pay the monthly flat-rate, and can keep the DVDs as long as they like; however their next choice will not be sent to them until they return the current choice in a supplied free-post envelope.

Users are asked to post their reviews and ratings for each DVD, and this user-generated content is publicly viewable.

The website won at the 2006 Golden Spider Awards for the Best Website Launched in 2006 ^[1].

Movie downloads

In May 2008, Moviestar.ie introduced a digital video-on-demand download service, making it the first service to allow users to download movies legally in Ireland ^[2].
