Legacy Family Tree is a genealogy software program for Windows.^[1] The Standard Edition is distributed, with no restrictions, as freeware.^[2] Users may pay a fee to "unlock" the additional features in the Deluxe Edition.

Legacy is a full-featured^[3] genealogy program that assists family historians in tracking, organizing, printing, and sharing family history. Both the program and the help files are updated regularly in each of several languages. A printed manual and several tutorial videos are available in English; the program itself and the help files are available in several languages, referred to as International releases. The program has the ability to create large-scale wall charts, including drop-down descendancies, fan charts, hourglass charts and DNA charts.

When two files are open, entire lines can be dragged and dropped from one to the other. The software also allows groups of two or more people to coordinate their work and track each other's changes. Multimedia support includes pictures, sound clips, and videos which can be displayed individually, in slide shows or as screen savers. The program imports and exports standard GEDCOM files and also files from Personal Ancestral File (PAF). Several links to the Internet allow searching for any person in the family file.

Other features include search and replace, spell checking of all notes, source documentation features and relationship calculation. For people entering US information, the program issues a warning if the county entered did not exist at the time of the event.^[4] Members of the LDS church can produce TempleReady reports.

Legacy Family Tree sponsors an annual cruise which includes seminars on topics related to genealogy and on the use of the software.
