John of WorcesterJohn of Worcester (died circa 1140) was an English monk and chronicler. John was the author of the Chronicon ex chronicis, a work which was formerly attributed to Florence of Worcester. The Chronicon ex chronicis begins with the creation and ends in 1140. It was previously believed that only the final part of the work was written by John. The chronological framework of the Chronicon was provided by the chronicle of Marianus Scotus. John is believed to have used a number of other sources, now lost. These included a version of the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle. He may have shared a lost source with William of Malmesbury, whose Gesta regum anglorum includes similar material not found in other works. John may also have relied on local knowledge. References
