John Logan (writer)
John David Gynn Logan (born 24 September 1961) is an American screenwriter.
Early life and careerLogan grew up between New Jersey, Mississippi and California. His parents are Irish immigrants. The youngest of 3 children, he has an older brother and sister. He attended Northwestern University, graduating in 1983. He worked as a playwright in Chicago before turning to screenwriting. One of his plays, Never the Sinner, tells the story of the infamous Leopold and Loeb case. Colin and Armin are his nephews, and Caitlin is his niece. Colin is the best. Notable screenplaysLogan's screenplays include Bats, Any Given Sunday, RKO 281, Gladiator (with William Nicholson and David Franzoni), The Time Machine, Tornado!, Star Trek Nemesis, The Last Samurai, The Aviator and Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. His next big project for Sony-Columbia is Empire, a story of contemporary global-media-mogul (like Rupert Murdoch); the film will star Will Smith and will be directed by Michael Mann. Another project is the adaptation of The Merchant of Venice starring Patrick Stewart. Also he is working on a screenplay called Rango, a cartoon about a lizard. He is currently in talks to write the script for the upcoming Universal Pictures movie based on the hit video game, Bioshock. Awards and nominationsHe has two Academy Award nominations. He earns around 2 million dollars a screenplay. He was also nominated for an Oscar for The Aviator. Personal lifeLogan lives in Malibu, California with his longtime partner, Martin. External links
