Jean Bourgain
Jean Bourgain (b. February 28, 1954, Ostend) is a Belgian mathematician, noted as a prolific problem-solver. He has been a faculty member at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign and now at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, New Jersey. He received his Ph.D. from the Vrije Universiteit Brussel in 1977. His work is in various areas of mathematical analysis such as the geometry of Banach spaces, harmonic analysis, analytic number theory, combinatorics, ergodic theory and partial differential equations. It had been recognised by a number of awards, most notably the Fields Medal in 1994. External links
