"HIStory"/"Ghosts" is the second single to be released from Michael Jackson's 1997 remix album Blood on the Dance Floor: HIStory in the Mix. It never received a commercial release in the U.S. but went on to be another top 5 hit for Jackson in the UK. It would prove to be his last for four years until "You Rock My World" in 2001.

The single is a double A-side featuring Tony Moran's remix of "HIStory" which had originally appeared as a new recording on Jackson's 1995 greatest hits collection HIStory: Past, Present and Future Book I as well as a new song "Ghosts" taken from the short film Ghosts of the same name.

Original "HIStory" song

"History", composed by James Harris III and Terry Lewis, features Boyz II Men. The song features various historical quotes by people like Martin Luther King and Rosa Parks. Topics covered include the Statue of Liberty, Disneyland, the Berlin Wall and the first man on the moon. On June 13, 2005, Jackson played this song on his official website in celebration of his acquittal.

There are two slightly different versions of the song, mainly differing in the opening instrumentation and length of the song. The first version is found in the original edition of HIStory with uncensored lyrics for They Don't Care About Us and is somewhat longer; the second one is found in the second edition of HIStory with censored lyrics for They Don't Care About Us.
