Douglas Academy
Douglas Academy is a secondary school in Milngavie in the outskirts of Glasgow. In 2001, Douglas Academy was Scotland's top performing state school with 31% of students gaining five or more highers.[1]
The school is named after the Douglas Family, who were the previous owners of the estate and donated the land for educational purposes. It is built on the site where the gardens were originally situated and the school was opened on 2 November 1967.
The new Douglas Academy building will replace the old school with a modern new look, with the new school said to be bigger, more spacious and better equipped than the previous building.
Douglas Academy Music School
Douglas Academy is home to Douglas Academy Music School, a unit for musically gifted children, who are admitted to the school through audition.
