Derrick Z. Jackson

Derrick Zane Jackson (b. July 31, 1955 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin) is an African American journalist, currently a regular columnist and associate editor for the Boston Globe.

Jackson's views are considered liberal, and he often addresses politics and racial issues in his twice-weekly column. Jackson is known for his annual columns discussing graduation rates of college football and basketball teams. During each year's March Madness, he devotes several columns to discussing the graduation rates of the participating teams.

Jackson has a Bachelor's degree in Journalism from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He also had a post-graduate journalism fellowship at Harvard University, and is the recipient of various honorary degrees. He also teaches journalism part-time at Simmons College in Boston.

Jackson is married to local physician and health researcher, Dr. Michelle Holmes; they have two sons. He has served as Scoutmaster and advisor for Boyscout Troop/Crew 56 Cambridge out of the Grace United Methodist Church.
