Community management
The definition of Community management can be approached from two different perspectives. 1) Internet community management in the sense of communities available on the internet like Facebook, LinkedIn, Hyves etc. 2) Intranet community management in the sense of communities within the organisation to improve cooperation and knowledge sharing or [knowledge management] While the first approach of the term focusses mainly on commercial aspects of communities does the latter the same on knowledge management and improvement on cooperation. Of course there are combinations possible in which a internal community may choose to connects to an external community to share knowledge. Or where an internet community could be enriched by a connection to a specific intranet community. But to be able to define, explain en improve the responsibilities, objectives and activities, we distinguish both perspectives. Internet community management is described as the functional control of systems by communities or their representatives. It can and often does, but does not have to, include elements of community ownership, and involvement in day-to-day operation and maintenance. It is particularly reliant on clarity of ownership of schemes. Intranet community management is described as the responsibility and activity to enable optimal knowledge management and cooperation within organisations. ideally executed with the strategical intent of the organisation in mind. So that the right knowledge can be developed.
