Henry Augustus Lukeman (1871-1935) was an Americansculptor, specialising in historical monuments. He was born at Richmond, Va., and studied under Launt Thompson and Daniel Chester French in New York and at the Beaux-Arts in Paris under Falguière. He aided French in his statue "The Republic" at the Chicago Exposition and later acted as his assistant in New York. His independent works include monuments, portrait busts and statues, bas reliefs, and ornamental sculpture. He worked the sculptures on Stone Mountain that were originally started by Gutzon Borglum. Lukeman's involvement ended in 1928, and the carving remained incomplete for many years. In September 1963, Roy Faulkner and a team of seven carvers began the final rework of the carving, using Lukeman's models and "point system" to transfer the image to the mountain. They completed the work in 1970.
