Apollo Quiboloy
Apollo C. Quiboloy is the founder and leader of The Kingdom of Jesus Christ, The Name Above Every Name, a Philippine-based church. He owns and runs the ACQ Kingdom Broadcasting Network, a Davao City-based religious broadcast network. Quiboloy is also the president of Jose Maria College, an educational institution within the compound of his church in Davao City. The church has local congregations all over the Philippines and around the world. He airs his message on his radio and TV station, managed by his own church. Quiboloy also believes himself to be the incarnate Son of God, as claimed by his daily messages and lessons on ACQ-KBN.[1] Others consider Quiboloy's group as cult.[2] [3]
Early yearsApollo C. Quiboloy was born to Jose Quiboloy and Maria Carreon, on April 25, 1950, in a small village at the foothills of Mt. Apo in Tamayong, Calinan, Davao City, the youngest of 9 children. Both natives of Lubao, Pampanga, in Luzon, Philippines, the couple had migrated to Davao City in the 1940s, just after the war, to find a better life. Teachings
Controversy and CriticismPastor Apollo claims on his programs that he is the appointed Son of God and that Davao City is the New Jerusalem.[9] Others dispute these claims. He claims that he is the way the truth and the life (John 14:6). He teaches that "No one comes to the Father except through Apollo C Quiboloy".[4] Land caseIn March 2000, the Department of Agrarian Reform filed criminal case against Quiboloy over the allegedly illegal conversion of a prime agricultural lot into a multimillion-peso prayer complex in Tamayong, Calinan.[10] DAR officer Ronaldo Orig claimed Quiboloy illegally converted about nine hectares of prime agricultural land into a "Millennial City Complex" without securing the required Order of Conversion from DAR. The prosecution office, however, dropped the case claiming the DAR failed to substantiate its claim.[11] Recruitment of minorsThe Philippine Daily Inquirer, in its January 19, 2005 article titled "Cult probed for Recruitment of Minors", reported that the ministry of Quiboloy has been accused of recruiting minors in Baguio City to work in its ministry in Catitipan, Buhangin in Davao City. PDI staff Vincent Cabreza and Donna Demetillo reported that the Baguio City council probed the complaint of Erlinda Rillon, 60, mother of Arlene, a 19-year-old recruit of Quiboloy's Kingdom of Jesus Christ, Name Above Every Name Inc. Quiboloy, in turn, filed libel case against Aurelio and Erlinda Rillon for allegedly calling its ministry a cult. ProphecyIn March 2005 Quiboloy mentioned the name of controversial pastor Eli Soriano of Ang Dating Daan, a frequent critic, as already being "marked" for hell, and declared that he will be stricken with an incurable disease in the months ahead. He gave members of Ang Dating Daan six months from the time of his pronouncement to leave the ministry or suffer the same circumstances as their leader. [12] Death of OpponentEarly morning of April 29, 2008, Datu Dominador Diarog and his family were straffed while sleeping his house at Kahusayan, Manuel Guianga in Calinan, Davao City. The tribal leader died, while his wife and four children were wounded but survived. Diarog was said to have refused the offer of Quiboloy to buy his property to become part of the ministry. According to Diarog?s widow Emily, men identified with Quiboloy had been threatening Diarog to sell their two-hectare piece of land adjacent to Quiboloy?s prayer mountain in Tamayong, but Quiboloy denied this. Military claimed the attack was staged by communist rebels. But the New People's Army, the armed unit of the communist party, pointed Quiboloy to the murder. The NPA said it was a ?despicable attack? on indigenous peoples who resist all attempts to occupy and grab what remains of their diminishing ancestral lands. The communists also accused the millionaire Quiboloy of using his influence over the police, military and even Mayor Rodrigo Duterte. Duterte is Quiboloy's close friend and supporter. The city council is looking into the claim of Emily that Quiboloy has been grabbing land in Tamayong.[13] Associated organizationsQuiboloy has a number of charitable institutions under the umbrella of Sonshine Phlippines Movement.
