Altium or Altium Limited is Australian CAD/CAE software company, listed on the Australian Stock Exchange (ASX code: ALU).

The company was founded in 1985 in Hobart, Tasmania, to fill a need in the electronics industry for easy to use, PC-based ECAD software. At that time, most ECAD/EDA tools were unix-based or required expensive dedicated hardware, which many engineers could not afford. Since that time the company has successfully acquired a number of other technology vendors in order to build the software engineering capabilities and technology itself for the first Unified Electronic Product Development tool, Altium Designer. This includes aspects of schematic entry, simulation, PCB design, FPGA/CPLD hardware design, embedded software and C-to-HDL development.

In 2001 the company changed its name from "Protel" to "Altium".

Products

• P-CAD discontinued in 2006. Replaced by Altium Designer.
• Autotrax
• NanoBoard a computer/FPGA controlled breadboard and FPGA development kit for verification and low-volume deployment.

Altium's "Innovation Station" is a combination of the Nanoboard with a one-year timed license (renewable) of Altium Designer software.
