Chiltern Radio
Chiltern Radio is a name used by Global Radio for two stations in Bedfordshire. They will soon both be rebranded to the 'Heart' brand as part of new owner Global Radio's cost cutting measures. Since then a protest march has been organised and many local newspapers and ITV East Anglia have jumped on board.
HistoryBefore the MW/FM frequencies were split by all commercial stations from 1988, it broadcast on two MW frequencies, 828 and 792 kHz. It also used to have Three Counties Radio's Bedfordshire frequency of 95.5 MHz FM. The current transmitter is at Zouches Farm, between Luton and Dunstable, close to the M1, which is on the Chiltern Hills. In the 1990s, the Chiltern Radio Group bought Severn Sound in Gloucester. The Group was Bought by GWR Group in 1995. RebrandOn September 1 2007 the stations rebranded with a new logo and reverting from Chiltern FM to Chiltern Radio. The rebrand also included a new slogan "Today's best mix" in the jingles and sung jingles which now feature on-air produced by Music4 in London. On January 5th 2009 Global Radio will rebrand Chiltern Radio as Heart Luton and Heart Bedfordshire. Chiltern Radio 96.9Chiltern Radio (96.9) is an Independent Local Radio station based in the Priory Business Park in Bedford, Bedfordshire. Together with sister stations 97.6 Chiltern FM, Northants 96 and Horizon Radio, it formed the Chiltern Radio Network, which became the Chiltern Radio Group. The station briefly changed its name to B97 FM in 1996 when GWR bought the station. The station changed back to Chiltern FM in 1999. Now part of the Global Radio portfolio, after GCap media failed to stop the buy out, the station will soon become Heart Bedfordshire. The Chiltern brand will cease to exist. Weekday schedule
